We recently received feedback from a customer on one of our diaphragm articles. We felt their comments were important enough to address with all our customers.
“Did Asepco really change nothing in the formulation or manufacturing process of the diaphragm?”
Since we began making products for the bioprocessing industry over 25 years ago, we have always been very aware of any changes we make having an impact on our customers’ processes. We have adhered to a strict no change without notification policy when it comes to our products, especially our diaphragms. We have used the same formulation and same process since we began making diaphragms. If we were to make any changes, we would notify the customers using those diaphragms a year in advance to ensure they have adequate time to deal with any concerns or issues that such a change may incur.
“I doubt you even make these diaphragms.”
We’ve made all of our elastomer diaphragms at the same facility, right here in California, since we started making diaphragms. As with our raw material and our process, continuity with our production facility is also important and helps ensure consistency.
“What kind of change control do you have in place?”
As an ISO 9001 certified company, we have fully documented procedures for all our processes to ensure consistent and improving quality. For example, we have a fully documented quality control procedure to confirm that our products meet the high standards we set.
“Do you test these diaphragms in conformance with ASME BPE Non-Mandatory Appendix J?”
Yes, all of our diaphragms are subjected to thermal cycle testing according to Appendix J testing. A thermal cycle in our testing consists of an hour of steam exposure at 135°C followed by 30 minutes of cooling. This cycle is repeated a minimum of 100 times to ensure diaphragm durability.
“Where is the certification letter? Where is the test report?”
We don’t send product test reports with every order. However, they can be sent on request. You can also request test reports for these tests.
“Where are the test reports regarding chemical resistance? Do you supply this information with each diaphragm?”
We do not do chemical-resistance testing for our diaphragms. We use general chemical compatibility/resistance charts since the general chemical resistance of the materials we use is already well known.
“What kind of guarantees do you provide?”
We guarantee that, if you are having a problem with one of our diaphragms, we will work with you in whatever way necessary to evaluate the problem and determine what solution will best fit your needs.
