Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is a Varox-cured material that is widely used in pharmaceutical and biotech applications. The material is non-cytotoxic and sulfur free. Like all of our diaphragm materials our EPDM diaphragms meet USP Class VI and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 standards. It is black in color.

Benefits of this material:

  • Low cost
  • Wide recommended temperature range (-60 to 275°F / -51 to 135°C)
  • Good in steam applications
  • Fair chemical resistance, especially to alkalies, oxidizing chemicals, and medium concentration acids

Weaknesses of this material:

  • Stickiness, especially under steam
  • Not compatible with most oils and fuels, hydrocarbons, solvents, and concentrated acids

ASEPCO provides diaphragms created with a number of different materials. The materials vary with respect to heat-resistance, chemical-resistance, and durability. The table below shows basic compatibility information. Please do not use this information as your sole method for determining whether an elastomer is right for your specific process. Before using any elastomer in a process you should verify its compatibility with an elastomer expert.
